Hubs
What is a Hub?
Hubs are intentional, smaller communities scattered around the greater London region that engage in creative hospitality together. Each hub is encouraged to seek the peace and welfare of their own neighbourhood or context.
Hubs are made up of people. Some naturally find their home among the Hillside worshipping community, and others may only connect to “church” through a hub, never wanting to set foot in the doors of a church building. As such, the impetus for hubs is deeply relational. They are meant to be a vehicle for creating a sense of welcome and belonging, as well as the widening and deepening of new and old relationships. Read more about this practice here.
Handbook for Hubs
We’ve put together a handy tool for hubs and hub leaders. You can find that document here: Hillside Hubs: Communities of Hope & Goodness.
Get Connected to a Hub
If you would like to get connected to a hub, contact one of our Pastors at pastors@hillsidelondon.com or our Elders at elders@hillsidelondon.com.
Community Dinners
A Monthly Meal
Once a month we partner with the good people at Glen Cairn Community Resource Centre (GCCRC) to provide a meal for the neighbourhood. These community dinners are a relational touch point for grassroots friendship in the neighbourhood around Hillside, helping move neighbours out of isolation and into community. Each meal is provided by the Food Hub initiative of the GCCRC, helping to alleviate food insecurity. Our social media (FB, IG) accounts are best way to find out when our next community dinner is.
Community Collaboration
We love collaborating with individuals, families, churches, and organizations that are up to good in the city of London and have some resonance with our values. Have an idea? Looking to collaborate? Send our Pastors an email: pastors@hillsidelondon.com
Neighbourhood Parties
Annual Ice Cream Social
For the past couple of years, we’ve put on an ice cream social in the summer. We try to create a block party feel where everyone is invited to join in the fun. This past year we created a party in the parking lot, had carnival style games, gave away several amazing prize packs, and served ice cream by the London Ice Cream Co.
Outdoor Movie Nights
Another annual event we love to host is outdoor movie night. We set up the inflatable big screen in the parking lot, pop some popcorn, encourage neighbours to bring a chair, and together we enjoy a movie on the big screen outside.
