Kidzone
Children bring the gift of life and energy to our community. As a church we have the responsibility to care for children and teach them God’s story of salvation and their role within it.
Overview
On Sunday there are two main children’s programs: Nursery and KidZone. Both programs start at Connection Time which is halfway through our worship gathering. Parents and caregivers register and check-in their children at the “check-in” desk located in the north end of our church building. For our check-ins we use the Planning Center system.
You can register in advance using this website or in person on Sunday. Once we register your child in the system we print their name with a unique number on it with a security label for you to keep and use to pick up your child.
In our nursery program, screened volunteers care for infants up to two years old. Some young three year olds also enjoy our nursery program until they are ready for the KidZone classroom. We have a beautiful nursery classroom filled with age appropriate toys to play with and books to look at and learn about God’s love. An applesauce snack is available for nursery age children provided they are not allergic. There is a convenient diaper changing area and sink in our nursery for parents and caregivers. If your child needs a diaper change you will be contacted by text message or by an usher.
Curriculum
Our KidZone program has three classes for ages three to eleven. All classes use the One Story curriculum to teach children in a variety of ways that they can understand.
The youngest classroom is for ages 3-5 years old. These children gather in the classroom at the end of the hallway where there are small tables to sit around and toys to play with after the group activities. An allergy friendly snack is provided. There are many fun hands-on activities prepared by our KidZone team for the children like wax sticks, play dough, and making tape obstacle courses. Each activity reinforces the big idea found in the Bible lesson that is taught in a short teaching time.
Children in grade 1-5 meet in the biggest classroom for conversation questions and music. After the music time together the grade 1-2 and grade 3-5 classes split off into their own classrooms where they learn from their teachers and One Story videos about the big ideas found in the Bible. Each class is challenged to reflect on God’s character seen in Bible stories and discuss topics relating to their daily lives together. A snack is provided. There are also games and the encouragement to memorize scripture passage.
Abuse Prevention
Overview
As a church we have a commitment and a responsibility to prevent the abuse of children. Each nursery and KidZone teachers are screened with regular Vulnerable Sector Checks (police check). All new volunteers must also go through reference checks, a screening interview, and abuse prevention training. Yearly abuse prevention training is mandatory for each of our nursery and KidZone volunteers so that they know all that is required to protect children in our care.
